Welcome to the busy and exciting world of Year One, this is
a very important year where your child will be nurtured allowing them to grow
into enthusiastic, confident, reflective and playful learners. Your child will
have the opportunity to engage in innovative and creative lessons carefully
planned by highly skilled teachers. There is a big focus on developing
children's early skills as readers, writers and mathematicians. We dedicate a
lot of time to developing our children, through Talk for Writing, Guided
Reading and individual reading.
The transition between Foundation Stage and Year One can be
a little daunting for the children and our caring staff will do all that they
can to ensure that this goes as smoothly as possible. The Transitions Day is an
important opportunity for your child to meet and get to know their new Year One
teacher during the 3rd term of FS2. There are also additional opportunities for
the children to have a positive transition to Year One such as the safe and
stimulating shared area where your child can continue on their learning journey

finish off our topic on ‘who lives in the jungle?’ The children worked very
hard during this topic, developing their understanding and learning of the
jungle and the animals that live within. On Jungle Day we celebrated this with
a day full of fun activities. The children dressed up as jungle animals or jungle
explorers, even the teachers and classroom assistants joined in! We delved
right into the day by doing the jungle boogie in the morning and saw some very
good dancers! We played jungle themed games outside such as ‘stuck in the
jungle’, ‘toss the banana’, ‘crossing over the river’ and ‘follow the jungle
In the afternoon, the children did some jungle art. They
created collages of a jungle habitat using a variety of fabrics and materials.
The children also made clay animals, learning how to manipulate the clay into
